Refugees Rescue Mission, Inc. (RRM) is a Christian non-profit organization which was founded in January 2009 by the Rev. Innocent N. Justice along with friends who had passion to help refugees. The RRM began with a vision of helping new arriving refugees in the Triad area of North Carolina (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point.) The goal of the RRM was to raise awareness in local churches about the local mission by helping resettled refugees. The refugees who came to the USA from Africa and Asia needed to be helped and integrated by local churches.
We provided basic household materials, interpretation for social services and doctors’ appointments, and transportation to churches and daily activities in their first few months in the USA. We helped refugees from Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, and Bhutanese who came from Nepal. In the U.S we still connect refugees with churches that help them to settle in their new environment.
Today, the RRM takes its vision to the next level. Our extended vision is to empower refugees who are still on the continent of Africa. Most of refugees live in refugee camps, but there are many thousands who live in cities in poor areas of countries such as Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Our vision is to empower refugees to help themselves so that they will impact their communities in a positive way. In countries like South Africa where xenophobia claimed many lives there are need for common community empowerment between refugees and indigenous population. Xenophobia is fueled up by poverty which causes some indigenous populations to think that refugees came to take their jobs.
This vision will be achieved by giving education access to children of refugees and poor indigenous children of communities, which accommodate refuge families.
On the African continent, HIV/AIDS claims many lives. This pandemic makes many children orphans. Refuge families along with indigenous citizens who received them suffer equally from HIV/AIDS. We provide care and counseling to people with HIV/AIDS as we provide education access to their children.
In Africa, when both parents die due to HIV/AIDS or any other cause, the oldest orphans take care of the young ones. The RRM empowers refugees and non-refugees children to become house leaders and provides skills they need to earn bread for their siblings.
Our vision is simply empowering refugee children to become independent so that they will transform their communities.
Our mission is connecting refugee children with generous Christians who can provide support that will change their situation from poor dependent to independent contributor of their communities. We provide short and long-term mission trips, which help sponsors to meet children they are empowering.
